What To Know Before You Hire a Water Damage Company...

Why You Should Use An "Insurance Company Preferred" Contractor:

Rapco understands the insurance claim process which makes it easier for both you and your insurance provider. Both the property owner AND the insurance company will feel comfortable and safe with Rapco. Beware of ridiculously high estimates from contractors who have little or no relationship with your insurance company. Also, be cautious of contractors that provide an extremely low estimate for "covered" damage - only to be followed by an exorbitant cost of noncovered work (such as mold) - which will come out of your pocket!

Use a company with the right experience:

Rapco has been in business since 1977. You'll find many other companies have recently formed within the last couple of years. Some have merely paid a franchising fee and then declared themselves "water damage/mold experts." See "The Rapco Story" for more history on our company.

Use a company with the right certifications:

Rapco has an ASB (asbestos) classification as well as a C-21 (demolition) classification with the California Contractors State License Board. The Contractors State License Board currently does not have a water damage/mold classification. However, water damage is very closely related to demolition work. Also, mold is removed in much the same way as asbestos. Our workers are all trained and certified for this type of work. As this type of work usually involves demolition of walls and ceilings, a C-21 (demolition license) is recommended and sometimes compulsory.

Do NOT accept an offer for a "Free" mold inspection:

Most other mold/water damage companies are going to offer you a "free" (or low cost) mold inspection. They will kindly send someone out to your home or business to tell you if you have a problem - and then try to sell you a job to correct the problem. This is conflict of interest. Don't be misled by language such as "We will send your mold samples to an independent lab for analysis." Whoever takes the mold sample - is performing the inspection. Rapco performs only mold removal and water damage remediation and will refer you to an independent mold consultant for the entire inspection process (if an inspection is even required!). Rapco will offer you a free water damage/mold removal estimate (there's a difference between an inspection and an estimate).

More about Mold Removal and Water Damage:

Mold contaminated drywall or plaster can be caused by a leaky roof, broken water pipes or leaky drains. You may notice black areas growing on your drywall/plaster. You may have tried painting over these areas - only to have the mold return. You may have even tried to demolish the drywall and replace it with new material - and still the mold returns. Rapco can effectively eliminate your mold issues using our professional and safe mold removal techniques. Rapco accepts CREDIT CARDS.

What you should know about your water damage/mold removal company:

Water damage and mold removal should be performed by a company that is licensed with the State of California Contractors State License Board.  As stated above, the Contractors State License Board has no classification for water damage or mold removal. However, mold is removed in much the same way as asbestos and water damage remediation is very closely related to demolition. Accordingly, companies that perform both water damage work and mold removal should, at a minimum, have an ASB (asbestos) classification and a C-21 (demolition) classification. It is also recommended that companies register with CAL/OSHA and obtain a registration number that should be offered to all prospective clients. Further, water damage/mold removal companies should maintain an adequate level of insurance. All workers who perform this work should have proper training in order to assure that mold spores are not scattered through-out the work area during removal. There are very specialized techniques that must be incorporated in order to assure a safe removal process.  All workers should be covered by worker's compensation insurance to assure that no liability is passed on to the property owner (client).

Rapco is licensed with the State of California Contractors State License Board with an ASB and C-21 classification (License #671425). Rapco is registered with CAL/OSHA (Registration #263). All of Rapco's workers attend annual refresher courses. Rapco maintains a $1,000,000.00 liability insurance policy.  All of Rapco's workers are covered by worker's compensation insurance.
